What type of back pain is this suitable for?

It’s ideal for almost everyone with lower back pain. Whether you have struggled for years with constant pain or you are aware of an occasional niggle and want to stop it from worsening.

It is not designed for those who have nerve symptoms associated with their back pain such as pain referring to your groin or legs, numbness, altered sensation or weakness in your legs.

This course is designed to improve strength, flexibility, core, posture and alignment. Building a strong, dependable back that you feel confident to use.

Will this program help prevent future back pain?

Absolutely. The exercises focus on strengthening the core, improving posture, and promoting overall spine health, reducing the likelihood of future issues. As well as the exercises you will be learning about your back and what you can do to prevent pain in the future as well as implementing them.

How long does the program take to complete?

Most people start to see improvements in their pain and function within 1-2 weeks. However to make long-lasting changes you will need to be doing the program for 3-6 months. It depends on how long you have had pain for.

How many times a day do I need to do my exercise?

You need to aim to do your exercise program at least once a day. Some of you may have time to do them 2 or 3 times this generally leads to faster results. We are all different so make it work for you and your back. It's not just about exercises, it is also important to focus on changing your posture and movement patterns during the day. This takes no extra time it's just about remembering to do it - I will give you tips on working exercise into busy lives.

What is the format of the program?

The program is based on an easy-to-follow exercise program. The exercises within this program are staged so you can progress at a pace that suits you - Don't worry I will be giving you guidance on this. There are also supporting exercise sheets that can be printed off. As well as exercise we will be learning all about what we need to have a great functioning back which we incorporate into the program. You will also be assessing your standing and sitting posture to see where you are going wrong and I will show you how to correct this. We will be discussing how to manage your back to reduce your pain in the short and for some of you in the long term. Advise on workstation setup and much more. It is the complete package to kick your back into shape once and for all.

Do I need any special equipment to complete the course?

You will need an exercise band, and an exercise mat is nice but not essential, weights are also useful but again not essential you use household objects at differing weights instead.

Can I do the course if I have a pre-existing medical condition or have had surgery?

I would advise that you chat with your GP or doctor about any medical conditions before beginning this program.

Is it safe to start the program if I already have back pain?

Yes! That's the purpose of the program. Don't worry I've been working with people with pain for many years so I know all the pitfalls and how to avoid them. It's advisable to consult with a healthcare provider before starting.

I’m over 70 years old, will this course be suitable for me?

Yes, This course is ideal for those of you with lots of life experience, who want to keep fit and active for as long as possible. A lot of my patients are retired so this is designed with you in mind. The exercises are staged so you start with very simple exercises and then progress at your own pace.
